Prudential Thailand Proudly Awards Chevening Scholarship for 2021

Company supports the future of Thai communities through high-valued educational opportunities

Bangkok, Thailand 29 September 2021 - Prudential Life Assurance (Thailand) Public Company Limited (Prudential Thailand) has provided funding for educational support in local Thai communities through the UK Government's Chevening Scholarship Scheme since 2015. The Chevening Scholarship builds on the company's core commitment to develop and provide support for future communities in education, health and safety, aligning with its intention to safeguard people’s lives and help improve Thailand's health infrastructure. It is part of Prudential Thailand's goal to not only deliver the best products and services, but also support individuals that show potential to lead and shape the world for a better future.

This year the scholarship was awarded to Mr. Imron Hanima, M.D., a general practitioner at Yaha Crown Prince Hospital in Narathiwat in the southernmost part of Thailand. He will use the opportunity to pursue his master's degree in Clinical Neurology in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Hanima, M.D., said, "I would like to sincerely thank The British Embassy and Prudential Thailand for making my dream come true. I promise to study hard and come back with a larger skill set based on what I learn in the UK. For me this is about coming back and applying knowledge gained to serve my local community by elevating healthcare and medical education overall. If I can play a small part in making this happen after I graduate, I can continue to apply my knowledge in this field for the greater good of Thai society at large.

"It allows people interested in healthcare to continue their studies, especially subjects related to neurology as I am one the few specialists currently practicing in Thailand," Mr Hanima, M.D., added.

Ms Pasalaree Theerasas, Chief Customer Officer, Prudential Thailand reflected on the positive impact education, and the Chevening Scholarship in particular, can have on the next generation.

“We are delighted to award this year's educational fund to Mr. Hanima, M.D. His pursuit of the Master's Degree in Clinical Neurology will help address one of the most needed medical specialists in Thailand today. His goal is to become an expert in neurology and to work in a research field as a professor in the university and to help society. He hopes to do this by working in local hospitals in various Thai communities. This was one of the main reasons he was selected as this year’s winner

"WeWe would also like to congratulate Ms. Chanidapa Yamyim, the scholarship holder supported by Prudential Thailand last year, on her successful graduation with a Master's Degree in Science of Infrastructure Investment and Finance from University College London. She will resume her career with the Asian Development Bank (ABD), a regional development organization promoting social and economic development in Asia, and we salute her achievement. We believe she will use her knowledge in infrastructure investment to make a positive contribution to Thailand as well as the Southeast Asian region and beyond,” Ms. Pasalaree, added.

H.E. Mark Gooding, British Ambassador to Thailand, said, "Thank you Prudential Thailand for the support of our Chevening Scholarships, which include full financial backing to future leaders who study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university. Moreover, Chevening is one of the best opportunities for them to achieve their goals because of our strong network of over 50,000 alumni worldwide. This allows students to gain access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences from one of the most diverse societies in the world.

Congratulations to all of the recipients that took part in this and for being successfully selected for the scholarships. The competition to get the scholarship is very intense. This year we had more than 1,000 applications and the selected scholarship recipients were very broad, which shows the wide range of diversity in Thailand,” H.E. Gooding, concluded.

The Chevening Scholarship is one of the most competitive scholarships in the world, funded by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, that lets foreign students with leadership qualities study at universities in the United Kingdom. It is awarded annually to a next generation individual who shows both passion and potential to dedicate themselves towards the development of their own country for the benefit of the population at large. This individual is expected to positively impact a diverse spectrum of social issues from students who received these scholarships and further their studies overseas.
