Prudential Thailand and OIC improve motorcycle ride safety for kids

Bangkok, Thailand, 8 April 2021 – Prudential Life Assurance (Thailand) Public Company Limited (“Prudential Thailand”) has donated 100 safety helmets to young students at Tungmahamek School in Bangkok to encourage better road safety habits and help reduce fatal road traffic accidents. The donation was made in support of the Office of Insurance Commission’s (OIC) Songkran Holiday road safety campaign, which aims to raise road safety awareness during April when millions of Thais return home to celebrate the festival with their families and friends. The donation was presented by Khun Saipin Choaknumkij, Chief Government Relations Officer of Prudential Thailand, and witnessed by Dr. Suthipol Taweechaikarn, Secretary-General of OIC.

Thailand is among the countries that record the highest number of road accidents in the world, with over four in five accidents (85.2%) involving motorcycles. Additionally, over 80% of motorcycle-related deaths are caused by head injuries. For almost a decade, Prudential Thailand has supported the OIC’s campaign to help reduce the number of accidents in Thailand by educating the youth across the country about road safety.

The handover ceremony was later held at Tungmahamek School with representatives of Prudential Thailand including Khun Pasalaree Theerasas, Chief Customer Officer, and Khun Saipin Choaknumkij, Chief Government Relations Officer, presenting the donation to the school’s representatives and students.

Prudential Thailand’s support to the Songkran Holiday campaign is in line with the SAFE STEPS, one of the flagship programmes developed by Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential in Asia and Africa, to raise awareness and provide life-saving educational messages on natural disasters, first aid, and road safety. SAFE STEPS Road Safety programme was developed in partnership with National Geographic, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (“FIA”). The long-term educational programme includes six education videos on topics including motorcycle safety, wearing seatbelts, and following speed limits.
